Regarding DiskAlign Script written by Tom Hirt

First off, thanks for sharing that script.  I have alterned it to check SSD drive alignment.  SSD performance is sensitive to the physical block-to-partition alignment.  Here is my thread on the OCZ forum regarding SSD alignment.  It currently has drive alignment tools such as the spreadsheet calculator as well as a link to a javascript calculator that was made in a joint effort with a forum admin.

I'm not very good at reading legal papers.  I've researched the GNU/GPL information located on the site listed below, though I can't say I understand it completely.

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html

So my question is this.  I have the edited script, though I would like the original authors permission to distribute it to the SSD community forums that I'm a member of, freely to everyone of course.  Same as the other tools that I've made available.

As I understand it, that's okay under the GNU/GPL licensing, correct?  I can post a copy of it here also, if anyone would like.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

Very interesting.  Thank you for asking for permission for the alterations.  Please go right ahead!  I'm all for any tool that helps out the community!

If you wouldn't mind, I would also like to keep a copy of your spread sheet in our downloads area (just in case something happens to attachment over at oczforum.)  Would you have any issues with that?

Many Thanks!
Tom

No issues at all!

I've also mirrored the alignment thread over at techPowerUp forums.

I just put a copy of the edited vbscript on oczforum and techpowerup.  It works for all SSDs with 512kb blocks.  There's a short list in the thread on techpowerup.
